Gary “Goat” Mahon
Gary “Goat” Mahon, 75, of Del Haven, NJ, passed away suddenly on September 11, 2026.
Gary was born on September 13, 1950 in Philadelphia to Joseph and Eileen Mahon. An elite athlete, Gary spent his early life at St. Timothy’s parish in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, where he formed lifelong friendships. After working as an ironworker, Gary started his own insulation company, which he continued through 3 generations all the way until his passing. He was a published poet, the world’s biggest Doors fan, and a 3 stadium Eagles season ticket holder. Gary was known by his friends as a man who would give everything he had to help anyone in need. He loved and cared for others fiercely. His generosity and selfless spirit will live on in the memories of the hundreds of lives that he touched.
He is survived by his wife [Lynne] his children [Nicole, Jamie, Keith, Timmy, and Kristen], his grandson [Aiden], his siblings [Joe (Kathy), Jack (Lin), Joanne, and Glenn], his nieces and nephews, the mothers of his children [Lenore and Bernadine], Lynne’s children [Billy, Katie, and Carolynne] and grandchildren [Damien, Gabriella, Elora and Francesca], and his forever friends from Brous Avenue. There will be a funeral for Gary on Wednesday, September 16th, 2026, in St. Timothy Catholic Church (3001 Levick St. Phila) You may visit and comfort Gary’s family from 9:30 am – 11:00 am in the church. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Further arrangements will be held at the convenience of the family. Please omit flowers and kindly consider donations in Gary’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Gary, you were almost two years older than me. When we were kids, I looked up to you for your elite athletic skills. Whether the activity was baseball, football, handball, running, or doing backflips, you were always the best. I will never forget the time you came to my aid at a lake in New Jersey. I couldn't swim back then, and I thought the water was only waist-deep. As we walked further out, a warning sign told us not to proceed any further. Not understanding the danger, I took one more step and dropped off an underwater cliff. When I somehow came back up to the top, you swam right over and pulled me to safety. Thank you, Gary.

Gary was truly the GOAT. He treated me, my friends, and my family like we were his own, and I’ll always be grateful for that. What I’ll remember most is his super chill attitude. He had this easygoing way about him that made you feel comfortable just being yourself—but you also knew he’d kick someone’s ass if he had to. That was Gary. A big heart, a laid-back soul, and someone you knew had your back. He loved his oil can beer, and he LOVED The Doors. But above everything, he loved his family and friends, and that care extended to everyone he met. Whether we were hanging out at the pool or in the man cave, he was just the coolest person to spend time with. Those simple moments mean so much now. Gary, you were loved more than words can say, and you will be terribly missed. Break on through, Gary, to the other side! Love you. Miss you. See you on the other side. ❤️
