Gary was truly the GOAT. He treated me, my friends, and my family like we were his own, and I’ll always be grateful for that. What I’ll remember most is his super chill attitude. He had this easygoing way about him that made you feel comfortable just being yourself—but you also knew he’d kick someone’s ass if he had to. That was Gary. A big heart, a laid-back soul, and someone you knew had your back. He loved his oil can beer, and he LOVED The Doors. But above everything, he loved his family and friends, and that care extended to everyone he met. Whether we were hanging out at the pool or in the man cave, he was just the coolest person to spend time with. Those simple moments mean so much now. Gary, you were loved more than words can say, and you will be terribly missed. Break on through, Gary, to the other side! Love you. Miss you. See you on the other side. ❤️

  3. Gary, you were almost two years older than me. When we were kids, I looked up to you for your elite athletic skills. Whether the activity was baseball, football, handball, running, or doing backflips, you were always the best.

I will never forget the time you came to my aid at a lake in New Jersey. I couldn’t swim back then, and I thought the water was only waist-deep. As we walked further out, a warning sign told us not to proceed any further. Not understanding the danger, I took one more step and dropped off an underwater cliff. When I somehow came back up to the top, you swam right over and pulled me to safety.

    Thank you, Gary.

  6. To the Mahon Family

I wasn’t a direct friend of Gary‘s or the Mahon family but my brother Chas Mccaffrey was. I remember when they were growing up. They were all so close and such good friends and I’m so sorry to hear the loss of another .rest in peace Gary.

  7. Dearest Lynne and family, We are so saddened to hear of Gary’s passing. His heart was as big as he was and his love for everyone was shown by the big smile and twinkle in his eye when he saw his friends. Bill & I had many laughs at he and Lynne’s trailer at RCC. He was always welcoming, accommodating and loved his “Lynnie the Pooh”. Please take some comfort in knowing that was loved, respected and will never be forgotten. Abazoobie my friend! May he rest in peace and be able to finally meet Jim Morrison like he always wanted to.

  8. We are shattered to hear the news of the passing of such a wonderful man. Fate brought us together when we parked alongside Gary & his crew at the Vet over 35 years ago. In the many years since that first meeting our tailgate parties became legendary events. We were truly blessed to meet up with Gary & Lynne, their families, and their lifelong friends for every home game. Gary’s spirit, his kindness and his empathy for others was a model for us all. I came away feeling renewed after each time we got together. I’m a better man for having known him.
Our thoughts go out to Lynne and the family in this time of grief. But know that there is an unending trail of memories that we all will cherish and that will give us the strength to deal with such a sudden loss.
Jim Morrison has some serious competition now on the other side.
