Robert “Bob” Bankhead

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness we announce the passing of Robert William Bankhead on August 1, 2025, age 88.

He is welcomed home with loving arms of his Mom, Florence, his Pop, Bob, his Sister, Flossie and his Best Friend, Rebel.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lorraine, son Bob, Daughter-In-Law Maria and Daughter Alicia.  He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Bob loved driving an 18 wheeler and the camaraderie of fellow truckers on over the road runs to Buffalo and points beyond.  His CB radio buddies knew him as “Agitator” but he was in fact a fun loving jokester who would always extend a helping hand to anyone in need.  Bob’s smile, laugh and sense of humor were contagious.

Family and friends are honoring Bob on Wednesday, August 6th, visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:15 am at St. Katherine of Siena RC Church (9700 Frankford Avenue). Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am with burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Rather than flowers or donations, we would ask you to say a prayer, give a smile and offer a wish of good cheer for Bob.

I have had the honor of knowing Bob for the last 8 years of being neighbors. A sweet man whom we had numerous conversations about the weather, Phillies, Eagles and of course the hallmark movies that we both loved. He truly will be missed. Rest in peace.

Jack and I were great. Friends with Bob and Lorraine for close to 70 years. We had so many fun times together, including Florida and las Vegas. He was a fun guy, always saying he just got back from a run. Ha ha .we got together at our house every 4th of July. These fun times will be sadly missed. As his daughter said, he joined Jack for a beer and a few laughs.

So sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. Treasure your memories. Thoughts and prayers are with all of you

  5. Bob was truly a one off character. Mark Twain himself nor Ernest Hemingway could have dreamed up anyone like him. He was truly an original. My deepest sympathies to his family.

  7. Mr. Bankhead, you will be missed. We will miss seeing you, thanks for making those around you smile with your jokes and cheerful demeanor.

  8. In my mind, I will always remember Bob as a real-life character straight out of Smokey and the Bandit. His charm, whit, and stories never failed to bring a smile. But perhaps his greatest superpower was making me feel like I had a second home out there on the opposite coast and I feel so grateful to have shared so many great moments with him. Sending thoughts and prayers for him and the whole family.

  9. I’ve been thinking about you all as you say goodbye to someone so special, your husband and father. I’m so sorry for your loss. When I spent time with Bob at different parties or occasions, he was always so gracious, kind and full of wonderful stories.

I’m keeping him in my prayers and asking the Lord to grant him eternal rest and bring peace and comfort to your entire family.

    With sincerity and love,

    Lita

  10. Meeting Bob was such a highlight of my trip to Pennsylvania back in 2019. I still think of his warmth and hospitality, and of course his sense of humor (Uncle Bob didn’t fall far from the tree there!). I didn’t want to leave. I am grateful to have these memories to cherish. God rest his soul.

  14. A persons life can be measured by their children. Big Bob must have lived a great life. (Regular) Bob and Alicia were lucky to have him and God is happy to have him back. That’s a life worth celebrating. Our prayers and a toast to you all.
