Mary Phoenix

Mary Phoenix (née Mallamaci, Sweeney), 82, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away unexpectedly on September 15, 2026.

 

Mary was born on September 19, 1943, in Philadelphia to Mary and Dominic Mallamaci. She spent her childhood surrounded by family and friends at her father’s restaurant. Some of her happiest childhood memories were made during summers spent in Ocean City, NJ.

 

Mary had a personality that made her truly one of a kind. She loved listening to oldies music and could often be found with her favorite songs playing in the background. She was a devoted Eagles and Phillies fan and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on. She was also incredibly proud of her Irish heritage, something that was an important part of who she was.

 

She was a proud wife to her first husband, Harry, and loved having the opportunity to be a stay at mother to her two kids. She loved spending time in the summer with them in the Poconos. 

 

Mary loved to travel, and some of her most cherished memories with her second husband, bob, were made traveling together. They enjoyed traveling up and down the East Coast and taking frequent cruises, always finding new places to explore.

 

Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry, and her second husband, Bob. She leaves behind her children, Maureen [dec. Mike] and Harry [Janelle], and her beloved grandchildren, Lauren, Shawn, Tori, Julianne, and Amanda. Also survived by her brother, Joe (Joanne), her nephews Joe (Sue) and Anthony along with extended family she cared deeply about. 

 

A memorial service for Mary will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at McCafferty Funeral & Cremation Inc., 6711 Frankford Ave. (between Unruh & Knorr Streets). Family and friends may visit and offer comfort to Mary’s family from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A prayer service will begin at 11:00 a.m.

 

Further arrangements will be held at the convenience of her family.
