George Schofield

In Loving Memory of George Schofield

February 8, 1960 – October 17, 2026

George Schofield, 66, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2026, surrounded by love after a courageous battle with cancer.

George was a devoted father, a hardworking man, and someone whose love and loyalty to those closest to him knew no bounds.

A chef by profession, George spent his career doing what he knew best—working hard, providing for his family, and taking pride in his craft. He worked at Race Street Café, where he developed meaningful relationships with those around him. His family would especially like to recognize Neil and Stacy, with heartfelt gratitude to Neil for the extraordinary kindness, generosity, and support he showed George throughout his illness. His compassion will never be forgotten.

Above all, George was a father. He is survived by his daughter, Melody Schofield, and his son, Matt Schofield. His love for his children was unwavering, and he would have done anything for them. He found great meaning in knowing that the people he loved would be cared for, even when he could no longer be there himself.

Throughout his illness, George demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience. Despite the many challenges he faced, he continued to fight, surrounded by those who loved him. His final months were spent in the comfort of his daughter Melody’s home, alongside her husband, Vladan, and their beloved dogs, Koa and Zola. There, he was surrounded by family, companionship, and the simple comforts of everyday life. Those quiet moments together became precious memories that his family will cherish forever.

Though they lived miles across the country, George’s love carried strongly to his son Matt, daughter-in-law Angelina and his granddaughter Paisley. From helping Paisley fall in love with fishing, to the many hikes and trips to the Boise State blue turf, the memories made will be cherished in their hearts forever.

Though his family wishes they could have had many more years with him, they will forever be grateful for the love he gave, the life he lived, and the time they shared.

He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed. His love will continue to live on in those he leaves behind.

George will be cremated, and his family will honor his memory privately.

Hey buddy I just wanted to say it was an honor to know you.your were an amazing customer and and even better friend . I just wish we had more time together . You were one of my first accounts and you often teased me how I just walked into your kitchen one day wanting to do business. You were one of the closest friends I had the pleasure of meeting through this crazy business. I am grateful we got to talk last Wednesday briefly. I know you’re in a better place not suffering anymore. I love ya buddy

Through my friendship with Melody, I was lucky enough to get to know her dad, George, and share so many wonderful memories with him. Some of my favorite memories are from our girls’ days together, when we would stop by the restaurant where George was the chef. He would always make our special orders, and no matter how busy he was, he would find time to stop by our table and greet us with a smile. And if we happened to have a pup with us, you could always count on George bringing out some bacon! He especially loved Melody’s girls, Zola and Koa, and always made sure they got a little something special, too. Another memory I’ll always cherish is when George took Melody and me to see Cirque du Soleil’s TORUK – The First Flight, inspired by Avatar, in Philadelphia. It was such a special experience and one I’ll always remember fondly. One of the most beautiful memories, though, was celebrating Melody and Vladan’s wedding. I remember how proud George was to have everyone gather at his restaurant for the meal afterward. There was something so meaningful about watching him do what he loved, preparing food for the people he loved, on one of the most important days of his daughter’s life. You could see the pride and happiness in him, not only in sharing his gift with everyone, but in watching his little girl begin a new chapter of her life. But beyond all these wonderful memories, what stands out to me most is the incredible father I had the privilege of witnessing. Through the years, I saw just how deeply George loved Melody. There was something so special about their bond, and it was always evident how much she meant to him. As her best friend, it meant so much to see her loved so wholeheartedly by her dad. I will always be grateful that my friendship with Melody gave me the opportunity to know George, experience his kindness, and witness the beautiful love he had for his daughter. He leaves behind so many wonderful memories, but perhaps his greatest legacy is the love he poured into the people around him, especially Melody. That love will live on, always.
