Eugene DeMers

Gene DeMers
April 4, 1948– May 3, 2025
Gene DeMers, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his beloved family and friends who will forever cherish the memory of his unwavering love and steady presence.
Gene is survived by his beautiful wife of 58 years, Linda; his three children, Gene, Nicky, and Kenny; Daughter in law Sherry, nine cherished grandchildren, Taylor, Alex, Fallon, Shawn, Dylan, Cameron, Adrianna, Cole, and Ryan; and four precious great-grandchildren, Dalton, Violet, Beckham, and Jude. As well as many life long friends which includes his best friends, Joe Spadafora and Frank and many more.
A man of deep kindness, humility, and quiet strength, Gene lived his life by example—always ready with a helping hand, a warm smile, or a thoughtful word. His deep love for his family was matched only by his lifelong passions: family, friends, music, horse racing and cheering for all Philadelphia sports teams. Whether he was watching the Eagles on a Sunday afternoon or following the ponies at the track, Gene brought enthusiasm and heart to everything he loved.
Gene leaves behind a legacy of decency, generosity, and love—values he passed down through generations. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the memories his family holds dear.
Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial gathering and funeral on Friday, May 9, from 9:00 am – 10:30 am followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 am in St. Timothy RC Church, (3001 Levick St. Phila., Pa 19149) where friends and family are invited to honor Gene’s life and share stories that celebrate the joy he brought to the world.
In honor of Gene’s courageous fight and giving heart we ask that in lieu of flowers, today you perform a random act of kindness in Big Gene’s memory to pay it forward.

My dear brother-in-law, I can't believe I've known you most of my life - I think I was 16 when I met you ! You and Linda were so young but so much in love - it was truly meant to be ! Gene was the brother I never had and always there for me if I needed him! I'll really miss him but what a legacy he left all of us! I look around and see his family and that's what it's all about - his three kids, his special grandkids, and his precious great grandkids! Gene was blessed with his loving family and all of his good friends! His legacy will live on forever! Love Always, Alice

Papa Gene was a pure gentleman. He was always real to himself and to others. He was a man full of great love and wisdom. It was an unbelievable honor to know him. I cannot think of Hale Street, without picturing Papa Gene. My family and I will forever remember him in our hearts. The world just lost an incredible man and heaven gained an amazing angel. God Bless you Papa Gene!

  4. My Uncle Gene is a legend and always will be. I will miss him dearly because he was a guy that was always honest and an Uncle I could always rely on …. Back in 1989 on a cold January night my cousin Kenny was working till midnight and several of Kenny’s friends conned me into asking my Uncle if we could wait for Kenny in the basement … So I had a few of the boys come inside to warm up and put some beers down. The word on the street spread pretty fast and 6 people turned into 60 in the basement.. I heard a banging sound from Upstairs and said, what the hell was that ?… Everyone at the Shindig said , Stu !!!! That is your uncle banging his foot on the floor- translation -Be quiet down there !! from that moment on a legend was born ….. I will miss you Uncle Gene …
