Charles “Chuck” Bushbeck
Charles “Chuck” Bushbeck, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and mentor, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, at the age of 66, surrounded by the loving family who meant so much to him. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, on August 2, 1960, to his late parents, Charles Bushbeck and Dolores Bushbeck.
Family was at the heart of Chuck’s life. He was a devoted father and grandfather who cherished the time he spent with the people he loved. His greatest joy was his family, and he took great pride in his children and grandchildren. As his life came to a close, he was comforted by the presence of his loved ones, surrounded by the family he had spent his life loving and caring for.
Chuck had a lifelong passion for sports, especially baseball and football, and was an accomplished athlete himself. He played college football as a kicker at Villanova University and East Carolina University, and later had the opportunity to pursue his dream professionally with a brief stint as a kicker for the Memphis Showboats.
He eventually turned his love of sports and working with young people into a career of his own. After beginning his career as a social worker, Chuck opened his own gym and baseball training facility, where he spent countless hours helping young athletes develop their skills and confidence. His passion and knowledge of baseball also led him to scout for the Los Angeles Angels.
But perhaps what brought Chuck the most fulfillment was working directly with young athletes. He continued training young baseball and softball players late into his life, teaching them not only about the game, but also about hard work, perseverance, confidence, and believing in themselves.
Chuck is survived by his children, Lauren (Dan), Ryan (Ellyn), and Kevin, and his five grandchildren, Scarlett, Cameron, Sloane, Wesley, and Elliotte, who brought him tremendous joy. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy, and her husband, Larry, along with extended family and many dear friends.
Chuck defied the odds more times than anyone could count. Time and time again, when things seemed impossible, he fought his way through. He never gave up easily, and he fought with everything he had for the life he loved and the people he loved most. That determination was a part of who he was, and his family will always be proud of the strength and courage he showed throughout his life.
In his final moments, Chuck was exactly where he wanted to be—with his family. We held his hand, told him how much we loved him, and were together as he peacefully said goodbye. Though saying goodbye was incredibly difficult, we are grateful we could be there for him, just as he had always been there for us.
Chuck’s memory will live on in his children and grandchildren, in the athletes he taught, and in the countless moments that made him who he was. We will carry him with us always.
A memorial service for Chuck will be held on Monday October 5th, 2026 at McCafferty Funeral & Cremation Inc. 6711 Frankford Ave. (between Unruh & Knorr sts) You may visit and comfort Chuck’s family from 9:00 am-11:00 am in the funeral home. There will be a prayer service starting at 11:00 am. Further arrangements will be held at the convenience of his family.

I posted a version of this online, but it should be here as well: Chuck Bushbeck was one of the most important people in the life of our family, helping Jesse Biddle in such a big way achieve his dreams, but also touching each one of us with his enthusiasm about everything (literally!), his belief in having fun doing the hard work, and his energized wisdom about sports and the meaning of life. He was a true family friend and beloved by all of us. I shall forever be grateful to have met him and to have been nudged forward as a sports dad the way he nudged me. Something I didn't really think about until now, after Chuck has left the gym, he wasn't just a coach and mentor to young people trying to become better baseball and softball players, he was a coach and advisor to all of us baseball and softball parents who came in contact with him.

Shocked!!!! I am so saddened to hear this! Chuck lived every day!!! He was always posting music videos on Chuck TV. Chuck was an inspiration after coming back from illness in college I believe. He was a recording setting place kicker at Father Judge HS, Villanova and East Carolina Universities, and I think in the USFL too. He developed a business to coach baseball players that got them college scholarships! He was just so positive and always kept going! Jeez. This is sad. 😢 Condolences to Chuck’s Family and his friends. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🏈🏈🏈🏈⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️

I’m so sorry to hear of Chuck’s passing. I had the good fortune of being a teammate of his at both Villanova and ECU. He played through cancer treatments at ECU and never missed a game and always had a positive attitude no matter what he was going through. I was privileged to call him my teammate and friend. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. His impact lives on 🙏🏾🙏🏾
We first met Chuck when he was our son’s soccer coach. Later on we reconnected when he was a scout for the Angels. Chuck helped prepare and guide Gary for the draft. In 2010 the dream that Chuck and my son had came true. Chuck’s guidance thru the process was invaluable! Chuck will be missed by so many athletes whose life he changed.
Chuck was such a big part of my son’s baseball college baseball journey, trained with him for many years. Our family thought of him as a friend as well. Funny, driven with a commanding presence. He will be so missed RIP Chuck. Love Anthony Michele and Ant
I have been friends with Chuck for for about 50 years playing Football and Baseball at Judge. We also worked together with many Baseball players. I remember telling Chuck to stop kicking the ball out of the end zone because I was tired of running down the whole field on kickoffs for nothing and told him to kick it to the goal line so I could run down and make a tackle around the 10/15 yard line. He now is watching all his players that he worked with put everything together in their careers. Will miss you my friend. Rest in peace !
My condolences to the family. My son Kade was one of Chuck’s pitching students. Chuck was always positive and there when Kade needed lessons or feedback. Chuck always had nicknames for the kids and Kade’s was “Sparky” . He was fun to be around and will be missed.
I am so very sorry to hear of Chuck’s passing. He coached my son Shane years back & he truly had a big inpact on him .I was so impressed by his instruction and knowledge of baseball.I remember the very first time we met him at the cages to hit…he told us how important dinnertime with his wife was to him…. He gave us a heads up he would be leaving to be home intime because he loves his wife very much and she works hard to cook for him….Needlesstosay Chuck had my utmost respect as a coach and a human from that moment on and I made sure we were never late for our afternoon time slots.
RIP Coach
Chuck — “Sir Charles” — was a good man who will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Chuck’s determination was undeniable. Throughout his life and coaching career, he inspired others while always maintaining a high standard of character, integrity, and ethics.
Chuck and I became friends during our workouts at his gym. Our conversations, his willingness to share his knowledge, and the time we spent together helped me become a better person. I will always appreciate his friendship, wisdom, and the positive impact he had on those around him.
