Charles M. Saunders, of the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia, passed away on September 22, 2026, at age 78. Beloved husband of Barbara Saunders (nee Bihler). Loving father of Melissa LaCroce (Saverio). Devoted grandfather of Juliano, Colette and Claudia. Predeceased by one stepson, Kevin J. Menefee. Charles served our country honorably in the Vietnam War (US Navy), receiving at Purple Heart. Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation and funeral on Friday, October 2nd from 9:30am – 10:30 an in St. Bernard RC Church (7341 Cottage St. Philadelphia, Pa 19136) There will be a funeral mass starting at 10:30am with burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Please omit flowers and kindly consider donations in Charles’ memory to St. Bernard Catholic Church at the address listed above.
What are the odds, a photo appeared on my phone just the other day with Mike and Barb sitting on chairs outside my house on 4209 Teesdale street. It was a block party celebration. There are truly no words to describe the loss we feel. Mike was one of those rare people who came into your life and left it better than he found it. He was caring, devoted, funny, and simply one of the best people to be around. His incredible knowledge, the stories he shared, and all of his unique sayings will be missed more than he could ever know. What started as a friendship at work became so much more. Mike and Barb became close friends of our entire family, and some of our favorite memories are the time we spent together at our home, sharing stories, laughing, and just enjoying each other's company. Steve had known and loved Mike and Barb for many years as well, and their friendship with him was something special. Even while visiting Disney with their family, they made a point of having lunch with him. That small gesture meant so much and says everything about the kind of people they are. Mike had a way of making the people around him better simply by being himself. I feel incredibly lucky that our paths crossed and that what began as a work friendship grew into such a meaningful friendship for all of us. He touched not only my life, but the lives of my Jeff and Steve as well. Our hearts ache for Barb, Melissa, and his grandchildren, who were so clearly the light of his life. I hope they find comfort in knowing just how deeply Mike was loved and how many lives he touched. He will be missed every day, but his stories, his laughter, and the memories we made with him will stay with us forever.
