Gladys C. Vargas

April 25th, 2023

Our mother, Gladys C. Vargas, was born on May 13, 1949 in Villalba, Puerto Rico to Emilio & Ramona Vargas (both deceased). Gladys passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children and siblings on April 22, 2023, at age 73. She battled colon cancer, receiving hospice care at home. She’s survived by six children: Iris, Jorge, Margarita (deceased), Anthony, Robert and Janet. Gladys was a grandmother of 15 and a great grandmother of one, with a second great grandchild on her way. Gladys was a remarkable loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a dependable friend to many. Gladys was a geriatric caregiver for many years. She also was a seamstress at several local Philadelphia factories. While her children were still young, she graduated from cosmetology school and nursing aide school. Anyone who knew Gladys knew she was loving, kind, caring, warm, generous, hopeful, courageous, determined, and always a source of positivity and fun. She was known to be a shoulder to lean on and she always had an ear to listen. She had an immense passion to nurture people back to health. She enjoyed tackling home repair projects and also had a passion for gardening. Throughout her entire life she confronted many challenges and was determined to overcome any obstacle set before her. She never allowed circumstances to dictate to her life.  Her family and friends loved her so much. We feel the pain of life without our mom. Gladys joins family members- her parents, daughter Margie, brothers Angel, Ruben and Andre- in heaven. She will forever be missed and be in our hearts. Psalms 23; 1-3 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake. Family and friends are invited to attend her memorial and funeral on Friday, April 28, 2023 at McCafferty Funeral & Cremation Inc. 6711 Frankford Ave. Phila., PA 19135. You may visit and comfort Gladys’ family from 9:30am – 11:00am in the funeral home. There will be a prayer service at 11:00am. Further arrangements will be held in private by her family.
