In Memory of Philip Matthew Sanchez

August 8, 1981 – July 21, 2026

Philip “Phil” Matthew Sanchez, 44, of Philadelphia, passed away on July 21, 2026. Born on August 8, 1981, Phil was the son of Susan Sanchez and the late Joseph Sanchez.

He is survived by his beloved son, Joseph Maximus Sanchez; his mother, Susan Sanchez; his sister, Melissa Shragher, and her husband, Jay Shragher; his brother, Michael Sanchez, and his wife, Kristen Sanchez; his cherished companions, Nini and Monique; and many nieces and nephews who loved their uncle dearly.

Phil was fiercely loyal to his community and the people he cared about. If his family needed him, he would drop everything to be there for them. 

Phil was wildly funny and known for his sharp, sarcastic sense of humor that could lighten any room. He loved animals, and if you knew Phil, you knew the nine stray cats he took in and spoiled endlessly.

Though he will be deeply missed, Phil’s family finds comfort in knowing he has finally found his peace somewhere over the rainbow.

Family and friends are invited to honor Phil’s life and memory on Wednesday, July 29. A public viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Catholic service at 11:00 a.m. at McCafferty Funeral & Cremation Inc., 6711 Frankford Avenue (between Unruh & Knorr sts.)

 Guests are encouraged to wear blue, Phil’s favorite color.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the GoFundMe campaign “Help Us Honor Phil’s Legacy by Investing in Joey’s Future.” The campaign has been established to support educational opportunities for Phil’s son, Joseph Sanchez. Phil’s greatest joy in life was being Joseph’s father, and the love he shared with his son will forever be a part of his legacy.
