Marie Elizabeth Groves

With great sadness we announce the passing of Marie Elizabeth Groves on November 30th, 2024. Marie was born at the end of the great depression Sept 8th ,1939, to Marie and Fredrick Hankinson Sr. and was 85 years old at her passing. She met her husband Joseph Groves while working at Bell Telephone as a long distance Operator and together they had their surviving four children. Joseph Groves, Denise Wine, Kevin Groves and the youngest boy Gary Groves. She is also survived by her brother Fredrick Hankinson Jr.. Her many grandchildren, Richard Wine jr., Danielle Wine, Stephanie Wine, Kevin Groves jr., Alisha Groves, Timothy Groves, Rachel Groves, and her great grandchildren, Cory Wine, Wyatt Groves, Isabella Wine, Harper Wine, Charlotte Wine, Mason Groves, Colton Groves, Carly Groves, Jessie, Jocelyn, Katie, and Kirsten. Marie’s straight forward inviting personality attracted all that came in contact with her. Her giving warmth invited all that knew and loved her. Towards the end of her life she worked at her beloved St. Mathews Parish in Northeast Philadelphia, that she attended her whole life and as a teacher’s aide tutoring the first, second and eighth grade students. She is fondly remembered as a “pistol” and kept everyone on their toes. She will be very dearly missed.
