Gerald J. VanBuskirk Sr. “Jerry”, of Philadelphia, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 1, 2023, at the age of 93. Jerry was a decorated Korean War Veteran in the Army, who proudly served his country. He was a member of the American Legion Post #352 in Somers Point, N.J. and the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #2819. He successfully owned and operated his own business for over 50 years. Jerry enjoyed spending his time up the mountains and at the beach. He will be remembered for being a man of many hats, a practical joker, an expert story teller and for saving the planet one bent nail at a time. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Anna VanBuskirk (nee Walsh), his 2 siblings, Florence Chambers and Joseph VanBuskirk, his wife Jean K. VanBuskirk (nee McCaffrey) and his daughter Leslie Kronberger (John). Beloved husband of Rita VanBuskirk. Loving father of Bernadette Haigh (Edwin), Shawn Robertson (Michael), Gerald J. VanBuskirk Jr. (Lori Anne), Kevin McCool, Colleen McCool and Tommy McCool. Cherished grandfather of 12 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. All are invited to Jerry’s visitation and funeral on Friday, November 10th at McCafferty Funeral & Cremation 6711 Frankford Ave. Phila., PA 19135 (between Unruh & Knorr Sts.) from 9:30am-11:00am. There will be a prayer service in the funeral home at 11:00am. Funeral luncheon to follow at The Buck Hotel (1200 Buck Rd, Feasterville-Trevose, PA 19053). Interment will be held privately by the family at a later date.
