Carolyn Brown Macayettey, was born to the late Dorothy Cypress and Walter Brown on January 14, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was one of the middle children of her siblings: Janet, Patricia, Joyce, Dorothy and Billy.  The three listed older sisters along with Dorothy and Billy preceded her death.  Carolyn was an affectionate person.  She loved everyone she came across and she dedicated her life to her children until her illness. Carolyn was a product of the Philadelphia Public School System. She graduated from William Penn High School where she was involved in various clubs and activities.  After graduating from High School, she worked for Bayada Nursing Agency – An agency dedicated to servicing the needs of the Elderly. Carolyn enjoyed working with the elderly population. In 1977, she met and married William Sr. Out of this union came four children Robin, Yvette, William and Jessica. While her husband was working, Carolyn stayed at home to raise their four children.  She was a loving and dedicated mother. Carolyn taught her children how to love, care for each other and no matter where she went, she always took her children with her to keep them safe and out of harm’s way. Carolyn loved music and dancing and going for walks. Carolyn loved to volunteer at numerous grassroots events and locations in the community, including The Mayor’s office, hospitals as a candy striper and at her children’s school.  She always dreamed of having her own radio show to discuss issues that were of concern during the time and had the opportunity to have airtime on Sundays WPEB radio dial station 88.1 FM under the guidance of the late Sister Atikiah Hashim Bey that is still part of the West Philadelphia community. In sports, her favorite player was Tiger Woods. Carolyn also loved Michael Jackson and use to sing and dance to all of his songs. In her spare time, she enjoyed the Gameshow Network. She also loved going to Powerhouse 99 and watching soap operas. Carolyn’s favorite foods were Kentucky Fried Chicken, Golden Grahams, Entenmann’s Walnut Cake, Lorna Doones, Peppermint Candy, and a variety of cookies that were .50 cents back in her day. On Thursday, September 08, 2022, she was called home. At the age of 77, Carolyn was carried by angels to the bosom of the Lord where she is in peace.  She gave unconditional love to all she knew.  Her spirit and love will live on for all of us who have been fortunate and blessed enough to have had her in their lives.
