Your Trusted Choice for Funeral Homes in Rhawnhurst
A meaningful goodbye reflects the life it honors, from the stories that get told to the people who gather to hear them. At McCafferty Funeral & Cremation, our family has helped Philadelphians shape those goodbyes since 1970, and today we’re in our fifth generation of licensed funeral directors. As a trusted name among funeral homes in Rhawnhurst, we’re one phone call away whenever you’re ready to begin.
Our Team
Decisions this personal are easier when you’re sitting across from the same people each time. Mark and Koryn lead every arrangement conference and attend every service, while Lisa keeps the office running behind the scenes. If you want a funeral home in Rhawnhurst where the owners stay hands-on, that’s how our family works.

Mark C. McCafferty, F.D., Supervisor
Mark is our supervising funeral director, and he and his wife, Lisa, own the funeral home James and Margaret McCafferty opened in 1970. He meets with families to plan each service and is there in person when it takes place, so the person who hears your wishes is the one carrying them out.

Koryn McCafferty, F.D.
Koryn earned her funeral director's license in 2019, becoming the fifth generation of licensed funeral service providers in our family. Working beside her father, she takes part in every arrangement conference and every service. That gives you a second person who knows your plans and can answer questions along the way.
Our Services
Burial or cremation, a full Mass or a short memorial: the shape of the service is yours to decide. As you compare Rhawnhurst funeral homes, it helps to see what each option includes and what it costs. Here’s an overview of how our family can help.
Funeral Services
A traditional funeral brings everyone together for a viewing, a service, and a final procession to the cemetery. Our burial package covers transfer, embalming, a casket in one of four colors, memorial cards, and a digital death notice. On the day of the funeral, our staff leads the hearse to the cemetery you’ve chosen.
Cremation Services
Direct cremation skips the viewing entirely, while a memorial service or a viewing beforehand gives friends and family time to gather. Afterward, the urn can rest in a family plot or come home with you, and sea scattering is available too. Cremation planning involves a few choices, and we’ll go through each one together.
Funeral Preplanning
Writing down your wishes ahead of time is one of the kindest things you can leave behind. You decide on burial or cremation, the type of service, and any personal touches, and your family simply follows the plan. If you’ve been thinking about pre-arranging your funeral, we’ll make that conversation easy.
Veteran Services
Military service is part of a person’s story, and it deserves a place in their farewell. We’ll talk with your family about how you’d like that service recognized and make sure it’s reflected in the day in a way that feels right to you.
Church Viewings and Memorials
Rhawnhurst is home to congregations of many faiths, and plenty of families want the service held in their own church. We can coordinate a funeral Mass at Resurrection of Our Lord on Castor Avenue, a service at All Saints Episcopal on Loney Street, or wherever you worship, including the viewing.Â
Virtual Arrangements
When relatives live in other states or other countries, getting everyone in one room can be hard. We’ll work through the details with you remotely, so family members can weigh in from wherever they are. If your loved one will be laid to rest abroad, we also offer international shipping.
Why Choose McCafferty as Your Funeral Home in Rhawnhurst?
There’s a lot to weigh when picking the right funeral home, so here are a few things Rhawnhurst families can expect from ours.
Five Generations of Funeral Service
Caring for families has run through ours for generations. James and Margaret McCafferty, both from families of funeral directors, opened our doors on Frankford Avenue in 1970. Today, Mark and Lisa own it, and Koryn carries the work forward, just a short drive east on Cottman Avenue from Rhawnhurst.
A Crematory Under Our Roof
Some families feel better knowing their loved one won’t be sent elsewhere. We opened a crematory on our own premises in 2018, and no other funeral home in Philadelphia has one on-site. Your loved one stays in one place, cared for by people you’ve met.
Rooted in the Northeast
There’s comfort in working with neighbors. Our family has been part of Northeast Philadelphia since 1970, and over the years we’ve come to know many of the families, parishes, and traditions that make Rhawnhurst home. When you call, you’re talking to people from right here.
Rhawnhurst Funeral Home FAQs
Most people don’t plan a funeral often, so it’s natural to come to us with questions. Here are answers to some of the most common ones. For anything we haven’t covered, our family is happy to talk it through by phone or in person.
What Should I Do First When Someone Passes Away?
Call our funeral home first. We’ll bring your loved one into our care from wherever the death occurred, whether that’s a hospital, the medical examiner’s office, a hospice facility, a nursing home, or a private residence. Then we’ll arrange a time for your family to sit down with Mark or Koryn and start planning.
How Soon Do We Need to Make Arrangements?
Very little has to happen immediately. Once you call, we’ll take care of bringing your loved one to our funeral home. Choices about the service date, burial or cremation, and other details follow in your arrangement conference, and we’ll coordinate the date with your parish and the cemetery.
How Much Does a Funeral Cost?
Our traditional burial service begins at $6,400. The package includes transfer from the place of death, embalming, a casket in silver, white, copper, or blue, memorial cards, a digital death notice, filing the death certificate with copies, three to four staff on the day, and the hearse to the cemetery.
How Much Does Cremation Cost?
We list our cremation pricing openly. A direct cremation is $1,295, cremation with a memorial service is $3,825, and a viewing followed by cremation is $4,900. The memorial and viewing options include memorial cards, a register book, and a digital obituary. Deaths at home, in hospice, or in a nursing home add fees.
Is a Casket Required for Cremation?
No purchase is needed. Families who want a viewing before cremation can choose our Viewing and Cremation service, which uses a rental casket. Once the viewing ends, your loved one comes to our on-site crematory, and the ashes are typically returned to you one to two days later.
Which Cemeteries Do You Serve Near Rhawnhurst?
We’ll follow your wishes wherever your family has a plot. Two options nearby are Sunset Memorial Park on West County Line Road in Huntingdon Valley and Magnolia Cemetery on Tulip Street, close to our own funeral home. On the day of the burial, our staff leads the procession there.
Can You Coordinate a Service at Our Parish or Church?
Absolutely. A Mass, a memorial, or a viewing can take place at your church, whether that’s Rhawnhurst Presbyterian on Loretto Avenue, Redemption Lutheran, or another congregation nearby. Our staff will come to you. Holding a service at a church adds a fee, which we’ll spell out before anything is finalized.
Can I Plan My Own Arrangements in Advance?
Yes. Planning ahead lets you make your own choices about burial or cremation, readings, music, and the kind of gathering you want, rather than leaving those decisions to your family later. We’ll talk through every option with you. Call our office whenever you’d like to set up a consultation.
