Losing a loved one can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. At McCafferty Funeral & Cremation, we guide your family through each step with compassion, helping you plan a service that honors their life and reflects your family’s faith and traditions. We take care of the details, so you can spend this time with the people who matter most. As a well-established choice among funeral homes in Burholme, we’re here whenever you’re ready to call.
Our Team
Three members of our family share the work of caring for yours. Mark and Koryn meet with every family to plan arrangements and are present at every service. Lisa manages the office day to day, keeping track of the many details a funeral involves so they never land on your shoulders.

Mark C. McCafferty, F.D., Supervisor
Mark serves as supervisor among our licensed funeral directors and co-owns the business with Lisa. Every arrangement conference includes him or Koryn, and he's present for each service. Families come to know him in those first conversations, then see him again on the day that matters most.

Koryn McCafferty, F.D.
Koryn has been a licensed funeral director since 2019. She leads arrangement conferences and is present at every service, helping with the questions and decisions that come up along the way. When you choose us as your funeral home in Burholme, she'll be with you at each stage.
Our Services
Every family grieves in its own way, and the service you choose should feel right for yours. Whether you’re drawn to a traditional burial, a cremation, or a quiet gathering of close family, we’ll listen first and help you create a service that brings comfort to everyone who comes.
Funeral Services
A traditional funeral gives friends and family the chance to see your loved one one last time, share memories, and stand together at the graveside. We’ll take care of every arrangement along the way, so your attention can stay on each other and on honoring the life you’re remembering.
Cremation Services
Choosing cremation can still mean gathering the people who loved them, whether for a viewing, a memorial service, or a private moment with close family. Among Burholme funeral homes, ours keeps cremation right here in our own care. We’ll gently explain the choices that come with cremation so you can decide what feels right.
Funeral Preplanning
Some people find peace in making their wishes known, so their family can grieve without wondering what they would have wanted. We’ll sit down with you, listen to what matters most, and make sure your wishes are clear. Learning about the benefits of arranging your funeral ahead of time can be a gentle first step.
Veteran Services
Serving their country was part of who they were, and it deserves a place in how they’re remembered. Share their story with us, and we’ll help your family honor that service in a way that feels fitting and heartfelt.
Church Viewings and Memorials
For many families, saying goodbye in the church where they’ve worshipped for years brings a special kind of comfort. We’d be honored to arrange the viewing and funeral Mass at St. Cecilia on Rhawn Street, a service at Fox Chase United Methodist on Loney Street, or wherever your family prays.
Virtual Arrangements
When family is spread out, it can be hard to feel together during a loss. We can plan everything with you remotely, so a brother out of state or grandchildren away at college can still be part of honoring someone they love.
Why Choose McCafferty as Your Funeral Home in Burholme?
Families near Burholme Park have a lot to think about when weighing the qualities that matter in a funeral home. Here are three things that set our family apart.
A Family Legacy
Funeral service runs deep on both sides of our family. Margaret McCafferty grew up in her own family’s funeral home in Center City before she and James opened ours on Frankford Avenue in 1970. Mark, Lisa, and Koryn carry that history forward today.
The City's Only On-Site Crematory
When cremation is your choice, where it happens matters. Our crematory sits on the same property as our funeral home, something no other funeral home in Philadelphia offers. It opened in May 2018 after years of planning, so cremation never depends on an outside facility.
Affordable, Dignified Care
Honoring someone you love shouldn’t leave your family with financial worry on top of grief. We keep our burial and cremation services affordable, so you can give your loved one a dignified, heartfelt service without adding strain to an already difficult time.
Burholme Funeral Home FAQs
When a death happens, even simple questions can feel overwhelming. Below are honest answers to several common ones. If something’s on your mind that isn’t covered here, reach out and our family will help however we can.
What Should I Do First When Someone Passes Away?
Start by calling us. Whether your loved one died at a nearby hospital like Jeanes, at the medical examiner’s office, or at home, in hospice, or in a nursing home, we’ll arrange to bring them into our care. After that, we’ll set a time for your arrangement conference.
How Soon Do We Need to Make Arrangements?
Your first call is the only urgent step. After that, decisions can unfold during your arrangement conference with Mark or Koryn, who’ll help line up the service date with your church and cemetery. If you’re unsure about anything, we’ll explain the options before asking you to choose.
How Much Does a Funeral Cost?
A traditional burial with us starts at $6,400. For that price, you’ll have transfer of your loved one, embalming, a casket in one of four colors, memorial cards, a digital death notice, death certificate filing and copies, staff at the funeral, and the hearse procession. Additional costs are reviewed beforehand.
How Much Does Cremation Cost?
Direct cremation costs $1,295 and covers transfer, cremation at our on-site crematory, and the return of the ashes to your family. A cremation with a memorial service runs $3,825, and a viewing with cremation is $4,900. Extra fees apply for deaths at a residence, nursing home, or hospice.
Is a Casket Required for Cremation?
If you’d like a viewing before cremation, a rental casket is all that’s needed. Our Viewing and Cremation service includes one, which keeps the cost well below a traditional burial since there’s no casket purchase. Once services end, cremation takes place here, and you can choose an urn from our selection room.
Which Cemeteries Do You Serve Near Burholme?
Burials can take place at whichever cemetery your family prefers. North Cedar Hill Cemetery on East Cheltenham Avenue and Oakland Cemetery near Adams Avenue are two in the lower Northeast. Wherever the plot is, our staff brings the casket by hearse and leads the procession to the graveside.
Can You Coordinate a Service at Our Parish or Church?
Yes. We can hold the viewing, the funeral Mass, or a memorial at whatever church your family attends in the Northeast, and our staff will travel to you. Church services come with an added fee, and we’ll walk you through it when we sit down to plan the day.
Can I Plan My Own Arrangements in Advance?
Of course. Preplanning gives you the final say on burial or cremation, the type of service, and personal touches like music or readings. It also spares your family from making hard choices during an emotional time. To get started, call our office and schedule a consultation with our family.
