Bernie attended North Catholic High School, but before graduating, he volunteered to serve his country in the US Army. He was stationed in Vietnam from 1967-68, where he earned the prestigious Bronze Star. On his 70th birthday, North Catholic presented Bernie with his long-awaited high school diploma, a special moment he would always remember. Bernie was a hard worker and had many different occupations and talents, he also earned his business certificate from Rutgers University. He ultimately concluded his career at PECO, where he worked for more than 30 years.
Bernie loved his family and friends, many of whom he met throughout his more than 50+ years as a member of St. Charles Borromeo Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight, was a member of the 4th degree, and held numerous board positions. Following his retirement from PECO, Bernie could often be found behind the bar at the Club on Fridays, enjoying the company of the many friends he had made over the years.
Bernie especially loved spending his summers in Wildwood, NJ, where he enjoyed going on “fishing trips,” heading out for “ice,” spending nights under the tent with a Coors Light and keeping an eye on the traffic and parking. He enjoyed many years of traveling and finally made the trip of a lifetime to Ireland with his family in 2019. Above all, his pride and joy were his eight grandchildren. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and never missed an opportunity to speak glowingly about them to all who would listen.
Bernie will be deeply missed by the many lives he touched. And if you sat close enough to hear his legendary commentary, you were lucky enough.
