George L. Wetzel
George L. Wetzel, of the Somerton section of Philadelphia, passed away on June 25, 2026, at age 91. Beloved husband of Doris Wetzel (nee Schwanbeck). Loving father of Anna Graves (Sean) and George Wetzel. Sadly missed by his grandchildren, Bobby Laing (Zoe) and Sean. He is also survived by his sister, Christine as well as many nieces and nephews. George was a retiree of the Philadelphia Fire Department, where he served his city for many years. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 1st in Forest Hills Cemetery, 25 Byberry Rd. Huntingdon Valley, Pa 19006. Please arrive at the cemetery by 1:15pm and follow the signs for the Wetzel ceremony. There will be a prayer service starting at 1:30pm, at the gravesite location.
Being one of his older nieces, I can remember him as being quite a tantalizer in his younger years. Many times I saw my Mother, who was the oldest sister, chase him up my Grandmother’s steps to try and tone him done a bit. In later years, he always added his humor to wake up the crowd. Memories going back to my childhood reminds me what a great and loving family I grew up in. Rest in Peace Uncle George. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
