Beloved Husband of 57 years to Margaret A (Hoffman), Devoted Father to Bernie, Michael (Tina) Beck and Debbie McDevitt (Shaun) and loving, proud Grandfather of Lauren, Hannah, Erin, Jessica and Kevin Beck and Michael, Maggie and Delaney McDevitt. He was predeceased by his siblings Edward (Marge), Joseph, Loretta (Joseph), Josephine, Bernadette (Richard) and Charles. He is also survived by his extended family and a wonderful group of friends.
Bernie was a proud graduate of Roman Catholic High School and Lasalle University and active member of Saint Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church for many years. He proudly served in the US AirForce Army Reserve Corp. He spent the majority of his career as a dedicated employee of over 40 years to the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. He was an adjunct professor of the American Institute of Banking. He enjoyed his time as a youth sports coach and Cub Scouts leader for his sons and their friends. His hobbies included softball, bowling, bike riding, community theater, traveling and spending time with his beautiful grandchildren. He was blessed to have a strong extended family and his “chosen” family of lifelong friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to join us to celebrate Bernie’s life on Friday, January 17th at Saint Katherine of Siena Catholic Church, 9700 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19114. Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 to 11 am with Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery.
His legacy will live on in the community of loved ones he brought together throughout his life who share this unique bond. The love, kindness and compassion of this community as well as his deep faith are what gave him his purpose and joy.
In lieu of flowers, please make an anonymous donation to one of his favorite charities such as Roman Catholic High School or the American Cancer Society and take the time to reconnect with an old friend and have a toast in his memory.
