Howard J. Stokes Jr. “Buddy”

Howard J. Stokes Jr. “Buddy”, of Philadelphia, PA, after a 10-month valiant battle with Metastatic Ocular Melanoma, returning from his 2012 diagnosis, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 24, 2025.

Buddy was the beloved son of Howard J. Stokes and the late Patricia M. Stokes. He was a devoted father to Eva Catherine Stokes and Jacob Francis Stokes. He will be greatly missed by his cherished siblings, Barbara Smith (Edward) and twin brother, Edward Stokes (Theresa). He was also a proud uncle to his niece, Jillian Smith, and nephews, Eddie and Thomas Stokes. He leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Buddy was a long time painter of District Council 21. He was also a proud alumnus of St. Timothy’s Catholic School and Father Judge High School.

All are invited to Buddy’s visitation and funeral on Thursday evening, February 27th, at McCafferty Funeral & Cremation Inc., 6711 Frankford Ave., Phila., PA 19135 (between Unruh & Knorr Sts.) from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Another visitation will take place on Friday morning, February 28th, at St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church, 3001 Levick St., Philadelphia, PA 19149, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 AM.
