Belgin “Alev” Bastik
Belgin “Alev” Bastik, born on November 21, 1976, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 21, 2025, by the love of her daughter.
A devoted mother, Alev gave birth to five children—Mary Viruet, Anthony Viruet, Cristina Viruet, Veronica Viruet, and Brenden Viruet. She is survived by her children Cristina, Veronica, and Brenden, as well as her cherished grandson Samson Seyoum. Her love also extended to her four beloved “grandpets”: Yuki, Appa, Chester, and Tsunami, who brought her great joy and comfort.
She was the daughter of Mary (Katie) Bastik and Ali Bastik and the beloved sister of Rosemarie (Rosie) Bastik, Tijen Bastik, Theresa Lanza, Ersoy Bastik, and Elisabeth (Shoey) Bastik.
Alev was known for her selflessness and her unwavering heart for the underdog. She worked tirelessly throughout her life, never needing extravagance, and finding peace and joy in the simplest things. She was someone who gave of herself freely, always ready to help others, and always standing up for those who needed it most.
Her greatest wish was that her family would remain together, united by love and strength. Alev’s legacy lives on in her children, grandchild, siblings, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness, determination, and courage.
She will be deeply missed, but her spirit of generosity and resilience will continue to guide those who loved her.

Aunt Alev, I was always your “ReeRee.” I’ll never forget how, when you and my mom worked together, you’d sit with me before school and ask about how things were going. I’ll forever miss your rice and beans, your laugh, and our long talks when we reconnected. I’ll always remember you FaceTiming me from work, just to talk for hours and check in. Even after long shifts at the corner store, you always made time for me. You’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

I had the privilege of knowing Belgin for over the past two years . During that time I got to know her pretty well . She would ask me how I'm doing and how things were going . If I was having a bad day she made it her business to hear me out and wouldn't get off the phone with me till I was ok. From Belgin I learnt three things . 1) Be kind 2) never judge other people 3) Have faith in god You were like family and I'm going to miss you very much
