Richard JT Huang

Richard Jung Tsang Huang, 74, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on February 18, 2025, after a long and difficult battle with cancer. He fought on for years after the initial diagnosis but ultimately, left peacefully in his sleep.
Richard was born in Yilan, Taiwan, to Huang Teng-Chao and Huang Yu-Lien on April 15, 1950. He was the first son of six siblings. He had a long and vibrant history prior to coming to America, and often recounted his days as a child, working in the fields while growing up and surrounded by the mountains and farmlands. As a young adult, he was the first in his village to pave his way to the big city and work as an educator, account manager, vendor and as a cab driver, he did not shy away from any of the many odd jobs as he could take. Richard was a driven and stubborn man who was familiar with hard work and dedication. He was the first in his family to complete a college education and the first to move overseas.
After his meeting and marriage to Cheryl, he moved to America to raise his family. Despite the many, many challenges of adjusting to a new country, he made every effort to provide for his family in the best way he could. As a proud father, he tried to never let the difficulties show on his face, and always held up his children, sometimes quite literally, on his back. He was the definition of tough love, but still had moments of unexpected kindness and tenderness. No matter the hardships, Richard did his best to make sure things worked out, whether through concentrated effort or ingenuity. He will be remembered for the rare insight, curiosity, and perseverance he exhibited and instilled in his children.
He is survived by his spouse Cheryl, and his five children, Kaisa, Shin, Kenneth, James, and Susan.
