William John Russell

May 4th, 2021

William John Russell, of Levittown was joyfully reunited with the Lord on Sunday, May 2, 2021. He was 88. William was born on September 24,1932 in Chapelhall, Scotland. He is now receiving his bountiful reward and ”Billy-Boy” is reunited with his beloved wife Betty of 61 amazing years. We can picture them laughing, singing and dancing together. William honorably served in the British Army under the Royal Dragons Division and after his service and upon his marriage to Betty, they made the choice to start a new life in America. He made the difficult decision to immigrate to the States and with his strong work ethic and quiet determination he was able to bring his wife and young son to the States the following year. We are forever grateful that his courage had an everlasting impact for our family. Dad was filled with conviction, steadfastness, a strong faith and commitment to the Lord. He was a life-time member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, and now St. Francis Cabrini. William was a successful custom home builder who was gifted with a wide knowledge and expertise that is evident by the many beautiful homes he built throughout the Upper Makefield landscape. He was a remarkable craftsman with a specialty in carpentry and received many awards as a result. Dad was multi-talented. He possessed a beautiful singing voice but did not seek the spotlight but, if we or Annie coaxed him enough, we were rewarded with soulful songs from his homeland. He was also a gifted painter whose talent seemingly appeared out of thin air, and in retirement, would produce beautiful paintings on a daily basis. He spent many a happy day at the local YMCA; tending his garden, especially his tomatoes; working and relaxing by the pool. He was a loving, strong, quiet presence in all our lives and will be missed greatly. We are extremely blessed and thankful that during his journey Dad was very lovingly cared for at home by his three daughters, Margaret, Helen, and Donna. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Helen (McAlpine) Russell; the love of his life, Betty O’Rourke Russell; his twin brother; Peter; brother, John; sister, Helen, and grandson, William Irvine. His legacy lives on through his children: John (Deborah), Margaret (Bill), Helen (Kyle), and Donna, Sister Marise Therese of Missionaries of Charity; 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Alice O’Rourke as well as many extended family. His funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church 325 S. Oxford Rd Fairless Hills, Monday May 10th 2021 at 9:30AM. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Williams name to Sister Donna Russell (The Missionaries of Charity) 399 Thornridge Drive Levittown Pa 19054.
