Gladys Alonso

Gladys Alonso, of Philadelphia PA, sadly passed away January 13th, 2022 at the age of 80. Gladys was born December 28th,1941 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. She moved to New York when she was 22 years old. She met and married William Alonso on February 28th, 1965. She and William had 2 children, William and Gloria. Gladys graduated from Fordham University with High Honors in 1971 with a major in Education. She went on to teach Highschool for several years. Throughout her youth she loved to sew, she made her own dresses and sold them. She eventually returned to that passion, after teaching, by working for many designers in the New York fashion industry. In 1993, she moved to Philadelphia and in 1994, she committed her life to the Lord. She was a passionate servant of the Lord; teaching Bible classes, preaching and doing local missionary work. She loved to sing to the Lord and praise him everyday of her life. Her favorite verse was Psalm 91. She was also a great cook and loved to have family gatherings. In 2006, she lost the love of her life and she never remarried. Gladys is the loving wife of her late husband William Alonso. Beloved mother of William and Gloria (Juan). Cherished grandmother of Briana as well as the late Brian and Christian. Loving great-grandmother of Krystali and Christian “Geo.” Devoted sister of Geraldo, Juan and Hector as well as the late Antonio and David. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather, remember and celebrate Gladys’ life on Thursday January 20th at City Reach Church (6814 Torresdale Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19135) from 10:00AM-11:00AM. There will be a service in the church at 11:00AM. Burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery. Please keep her family in your prayers.
