David B. Johnston, Jr., “Skip” formerly of the Harrowgate section of our city, passed away on February 14th, 2020, at age 72. Beloved husband of Joan (nee Strouse). Cherished father of Susan Herrmann (Randy). Loving grandfather of Natalie Vidra and Tim Herrmann. Doting Great-Grandfather of Annabella Herrmann. David was a constant presence in the Harrowgate Boxing Club in the 1970s, where he volunteered his time. Being selfless throughout his life, with continuing to help all those that he felt were in need, through the Veterans Administration, Northeast Hospital, Friends Hospital, and A.A. , David actually gave the coat off of his back to someone that needed it more than he.  Family and friends are invited to gather, remember and celebrate David’s life on Friday February 21st, at McCafferty Funeral & Cremation Inc. 6711 Frankford Ave. (between Unruh & Knorr Sts). You may visit and comfort David’s family during the visitation from 12:00 noon to 1:30pm in the Funeral Home. There will be a Remembrance Service at 1:30pm (also in the funeral home). Burial, with military honors, will be at a later date in Washington Crossing National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations in David’s memory to CMJC VA Medical Center Volunteer Services (on memo of check please write hospice unit and David’s name) 3900 Woodland Ave. Phila., PA 19104.
