Annabelle Martinez

June 18th, 2020

Annabelle Martinez, of Philadelphia PA, passed away June 7th, 2020 at the age of 62. Proud daughter of Carmen Aviles and Ventura Martinez. Beloved mother of Natasha Serrano, Ana Nancy Vasquez and James Burgos. Loving grandmother to Julian Vasquez and 9 grandchildren.  Loving sister of Iris Betsy Martinez, Madeline Martinez, Blanca Martinez, Joanna Martinez and Benny Martinez.

My mother was a loving and caring soul. People gravitated towards my mother, she was friendly and quick to help. She would make total strangers feel like they had known her for years. She was the life of the party, full of energy, with her quirky personality and she’d dance to everything-she especially loved her Salsa and R&B soul music. She was outgoing, outspoken, and made her thoughts known.  She loved her Puerto Rican heritage. “WE TAINO!!” she’d yell loud and proud! Wearing all her puerto rican gear. From the cango hat, bandanas, bracelets and chains,  down to her chancletas. My mom would be up and down the streets protesting today, with her Puerto Rican gear, letting them know Puerto Rican Lives Matter.  My mother was also a faithful woman of God.  She struggled for many years and yet kept her faith. My most fond memory was at church of her dancing and singing “I have the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart, And I’m so happy, so very happy, I have the love of Jesus in my heart,  down in my heart to stay.”  I know she’s in heaven with our Lord, her mother, sister and brother.

Due to the current health crisis, Annabelle’s family will be having a private Memorial Service to celebrate her life.
