Marie Theresa (Gallagher) Trunkwalter, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2018 after a heartbreaking battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Marie was born June 24, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Mary & Joseph Gallagher. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, John, age 89, Her three sons, John, Joseph (Tammie nee Dixon) and James (Debi nee Camburn), her grandchildren Joseph Jr. (Nicole nee Otterbein) and Lisa (Al Crawford) and the apples of her eye, her great grandchildren, Joseph III, Charlotte, Ryan and Addison. Marie is also survived by two of her siblings, Betty Ann (Paul), Claire and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by three of her siblings, Marguerite, Kathleen and William. Mom was a caretaker from the start who helped her Mother care for the family and later worked at Wolfe Brothers during World War II as a machinist. She met the love of her life, John “Reds” Trunkwalter, Sr., in her late teens while out with friends and they have been inseparable since that time. GMom/Mam was happiest with family and enjoyed trips to the Atlantic City Casinos and many Summers in Wildwood beach with her husband John, sons John and Joseph, daughter-in-law Tammie and her grandchildren Joseph and Lisa. She and John Sr. share a special bond with their grandchildren Joe & Lisa and Marie cherished their time together.Marie was very proud of her Irish heritage and at times her family cited her ability to overcome many health challenges which Mom would say was “good Irish” and recall similar times with her Aunt Sarah. Marie and her husband John retired and later moved to Pottstown, Pa where they resided with their son and daughter in law James & Debi for the past 14 years where she enjoyed birdwatching, helping make “Scons” and playing with their dog Oreo.
Marie was loved by so many people and will be dearly missed. Family and friends are invited to gather, remember and celebrate Marie’s life on Thursday, Feb. 22, at McCafferty Funeral & Cremation Inc. , 6709 Frankford Avenue (between Unruh & Knorr Sts), Phila. PA. 19135, where the visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., followed by the Prayer Service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery 830 Highland Rd., in Newtown, PA.
